Sales Navigator vs LinkedIn Recruiter: the cheaper one searches further

Sales Navigator Core is $119.99 a month; Recruiter Lite is $170. The cheaper product also grants 20 more InMail credits and searches the entire LinkedIn network, where Recruiter Lite is confined to your own connections. On the three numbers a recruiter compares first, Sales Navigator wins all three. What Recruiter has is the hiring layer — and whether you need it is the whole question.

The verdict, up front

Finding people, or tracking them?

That is the entire decision. These are not competing tiers of one product — they are two products that happen to overlap on search, and only one of them knows what a requisition is.

Finding people → Sales Navigator, $119.99

Whole-network search, 50 credits, a 2,500-result cap, and $50.01 a month cheaper. If sourcing is the bottleneck, this is the better tool as well as the cheaper one.

Tracking them → Recruiter Lite, $170

Pipelines with stages, notes and statuses per role, plus the recruiting filters and the “open to work” signal. Nothing in Sales Navigator approximates any of it.

Already have an ATS → Sales Navigator

Recruiter's pipeline duplicates what the ATS already does, so you would be paying $600.12 a year for a second system of record.

Hiring outside your network → neither, yet

Sales Navigator reaches them but has no hiring layer; Recruiter Lite has the layer but cannot see them. That combination is what Recruiter Corporate exists for — and it is quote-only.

Where each product actually wins

Sales Navigator takes the first four rows, Recruiter the next two, and the last two are a draw. The surprise is how one-sided the top half is.

One seat, twelve months, by product and billing route
RouteRelative sizeTwelve-month total
Sales Navigator Core, prepaid$89.99 a month effective$1,079.88
Sales Navigator Core, monthly$119.99 × 12 — whole-network search$1,439.88
Recruiter Lite, prepaid$140 a month effective$1,680

A prepaid Sales Navigator year at $1,079.88 costs $960.12 less than a year of Recruiter Lite paid monthly — for more credits and a wider search. The hiring layer is the only thing that difference buys. Whether prepaying is right on either is a separate question, and the discounts differ: 25% on Core against 18% on Lite.

The case people get wrong

“I am recruiting, so I need Recruiter”

The product name does a lot of work here. It is worth testing the assumption against what you actually do all day.

If your candidates are outside your network

Recruiter Lite cannot see them at all, and Sales Navigator can. The name on the product does not change that — see what Lite's restriction means.

If you send more than 30 messages a month

Lite's allowance runs out and cannot be topped up on a self-serve plan. Sales Navigator gives 50 for less money.

If an ATS already holds your pipeline

Then you are paying $600.12 a year for a pipeline you will not use, and Lite has no ATS sync to justify it either — that is Corporate.

If the process genuinely is the work

Several live requisitions, candidates at different stages, notes that matter — then Recruiter is the right product and the premium is fair.

Sales Navigator vs Recruiter FAQ

The questions this comparison raises

Is Sales Navigator cheaper than LinkedIn Recruiter?

Yes, and by more than the price alone suggests. Sales Navigator Core is $119.99 a month against Recruiter Lite's $170 — $50.01 less — and it also grants 20 more InMail credits (50 against 30) and searches the entire LinkedIn network where Recruiter Lite is confined to your own connections. On price, credits and reach, the cheaper product wins all three. Recruiter Corporate, which does search the whole network, has no published price at all.

Can I use Sales Navigator for recruiting?

For sourcing, yes, and often better than Recruiter Lite. You get whole-network search, 50 credits and a 2,500-result cap for less money. What you do not get is the hiring layer: no candidate pipelines with stages, no recruiting-specific filters, and no "open to work" signal — so you would be tracking candidates somewhere else, typically in an ATS or a spreadsheet.

What does LinkedIn Recruiter have that Sales Navigator does not?

Three things that matter: candidate pipelines with stages and notes, 20+ recruiting-specific filters, and the "open to work" signal. Recruiter is built around a requisition — a role you are filling, with candidates moving through it. Sales Navigator is built around a list of people you want to reach. If the process is the hard part, Recruiter. If finding people is the hard part, Sales Navigator.

Which should a recruiting agency buy?

It depends on where the ATS sits. If the agency already runs Greenhouse, Bullhorn or similar, the pipeline lives there and Recruiter Lite's pipeline duplicates it — in which case Sales Navigator Core at $119.99 is the cheaper sourcing tool and the better search. If there is no ATS and Recruiter is the system of record, Lite earns its $50.01 premium. Note that Lite's network-limited search hurts agencies most, since they hire across industries where their own network is thinnest.

Is Recruiter Lite or Sales Navigator better for cold outreach to candidates?

Sales Navigator, clearly. More credits at a lower cost per message, a search that reaches the whole platform rather than your third-degree, and a deeper result cap. The only thing you give up for cold sourcing specifically is the "open to work" filter, which narrows to people already signalling availability — useful, but not worth $600.12 a year on its own if your outreach is cold anyway.

Do I need both?

Some teams do run both, splitting sourcing onto Sales Navigator and process onto Recruiter, but at $3,479.88 a year per person that is an expensive answer to a question an ATS usually solves more cheaply. Before buying both, check whether your ATS already does what you would be paying Recruiter to do.

Where to next

Buy the job, not the product name

$50.01 a month separates them and the cheaper one searches further. Recruiter earns its premium only when the hiring process — not the finding — is the hard part.
