LinkedIn annual vs monthly: the discount is not one number

Prepaying the year saves 50% on Premium Career and only 6% on Sales Navigator Advanced. Every guide that tells you to pay annually is quoting the first figure and applying it to the whole range. On one tier the commitment is worth $240 a year; on another it is worth $120.

The ladder

What prepaying actually saves, plan by plan

Ordered by how good the deal is, which is not the order anyone guesses. The cheapest plan on LinkedIn has the steepest discount; the second-dearest has almost none.

PlanMonthlyA year, paid monthlyA year, prepaidYou saveDiscountBreak-even
Premium Career$39.99$479.88$239.88$24050%month 6
Premium Business$69.99$839.88$575.88$26431%month 9
Sales Navigator Core$119.99$1,439.88$1,079.88$36025%month 9
Recruiter Lite$170$2,040$1,680$36018%month 10
Sales Navigator Advanced$159.99$1,919.88$1,799.88$1206%month 12

“Break-even” is the month in which the monthly plan's running total passes the prepaid price. Cancel before it and the prepay was the more expensive choice, because LinkedIn refunds none of an unused annual term. US list prices in USD, excluding tax. LinkedIn bills in local currency in most markets and the converted figure is rarely a straight exchange-rate conversion, so treat this as the US baseline and confirm in your own billing page before committing to an annual term.

The two extremes

The same commitment is worth $240 on one plan and $120 on another

Both bets cost the same thing — twelve months you cannot exit. Only the payout differs, and it differs by a factor of 2.

What one year of commitment buys you, by plan
RouteRelative sizeSaved by prepaying
Career — 50%$479.88 monthly vs $239.88 prepaid$240
Business — 31%$839.88 monthly vs $575.88 prepaid$264
Core — 25%$1,439.88 monthly vs $1,079.88 prepaid$360
Recruiter Lite — 18%$2,040 monthly vs $1,680 prepaid$360
Advanced — 6%$1,919.88 monthly vs $1,799.88 prepaid$120

The highlighted bar is Sales Navigator Advanced. LinkedIn cut its monthly price on 1 August 2026 without cutting the annual one, which is how a tier ended up with a 6% prepay discount — the reasoning is on Advanced pricing. Note also that the bars are not ordered by plan price: Career is the cheapest plan on LinkedIn and has the largest absolute saving of the lower tiers.

How to decide

Four questions, in this order

The billing period is a bet on your own certainty, not a discount you have already earned. These are the questions that settle it.

1. Will you still want this seat in month twelve?

If the honest answer is “probably”, the monthly plan is cheap insurance. A Premium Career seat abandoned in month four costs $239.88 prepaid against $159.96 monthly — the prepay is nearly 1× worse.

2. Which plan is it?

This is the question nobody asks. The discount is 50% on Career and 6% on Advanced, so the answer to “is annual worth it” genuinely changes with the tier.

3. How many seats?

The commitment multiplies. Ten Core seats prepaid is $10,798.80 spent on day one — see team pricing for the totals at every size.

4. Can you start monthly and switch later?

Yes, and it is the asymmetry worth exploiting: LinkedIn credits the unused monthly term against an annual upgrade, but will not convert an annual term back. Monthly is reversible; annual is not.

The case against prepaying

When the monthly plan is simply correct

On Sales Navigator Advanced, nearly always

6% is $120 a year. That is less than one month of the seat, in exchange for eleven months you cannot leave.

While you are still testing the channel

Most teams that cancel do it in the first quarter. If you are running a pilot, the monthly premium is the price of finding out — and it is smaller than the write-off.

When headcount is uncertain

Seats do not pool and unused ones are not refunded. Prepaying for a team you have not hired yet is the commonest way to overspend on this product.

When a reprice may be coming

LinkedIn moved this range on 1 August 2026, up on one tier and down on another. A monthly plan follows a price cut; a prepaid year does not. The dated record is on price changes.

Annual vs monthly FAQ

The billing questions people ask

Is it cheaper to pay LinkedIn annually or monthly?

Annually on every plan, but by wildly different amounts. Prepaying Premium Career saves 50% — $240 over twelve months — while prepaying Sales Navigator Advanced saves only 6%, or $120. The general advice to "pay annually and save" is really a description of Premium Career's discount being applied to a range where it does not hold.

How much does LinkedIn annual billing actually save?

Premium Career: $240 a year (50%); Premium Business: $264 a year (31%); Sales Navigator Core: $360 a year (25%); Recruiter Lite: $360 a year (18%); Sales Navigator Advanced: $120 a year (6%). Those are US list prices excluding tax, per seat.

What is the catch with LinkedIn annual plans?

LinkedIn does not pro-rate a cancelled annual term. The full year leaves your account on day one and none of it comes back if you stop using the seat in month three. That makes the discount a bet on still wanting the seat in month twelve, rather than a saving you have already banked.

When is the monthly LinkedIn plan the better choice?

Whenever you are not certain about twelve months, and always on Sales Navigator Advanced, where the discount is only 6%. On that tier the prepay buys $120 of saving in exchange for a full-year commitment with no exit — a materially worse trade than the same commitment on Premium Career, which returns $240.

Can I switch from monthly to annual mid-term?

Yes. LinkedIn credits the unused part of the current monthly term against the annual plan when you switch, so switching at any point costs nothing extra. Switching the other way — annual to monthly — is not possible mid-term, which is the asymmetry worth knowing: starting monthly and moving to annual later is reversible, and starting annual is not.

Does LinkedIn ever discount more than the annual rate?

Not publicly. There is no coupon code, no seasonal sale and no referral discount on the self-serve plans, and sites offering one are reselling access to somebody else’s account. The only negotiated discounts appear on Sales Navigator Advanced Plus and Recruiter Corporate contracts, both of which are quote-only and sold through a representative.

Where to next

Decide the billing period per plan, not once

The same twelve-month commitment returns $240 on Premium Career and $120 on Sales Navigator Advanced. Check which one you are actually buying before you commit.
